Internet Explorer 5 Configuration
The following step-by-step walkthrough will help you to set up Internet Explorer 5.
At the Windows Desktop screen, double-click on the Internet Explorer 5 icon and the Internet Explorer browser will open.
On the Toolbar line, click the Tools option and the following menu will appear.
Click Internet Options choice and the following window will appear. From this window, you can set up your preferences for Internet Explorer 5.
Under the General tab, in the Home Page section, you can select the Start Page that Internet Explorer will show when it is initially opened. To set the home page, choose from one of the three boxes:
- Use Current will use the current address in the address window
- Use Default will use the default homepage (Powernet's Page)
- Use Blank will use a blank page
Alternatively you can set your own home page by typing a URL into the Address field, for example a search engine home page like http://www.yahoo.com.
Once the home page is set, click on the Connection tab and the following screen will appear.
Make sure Power Internet (or whatever you have called your Powernet connection) is selected in Dial-Up Settings.
Click the Settings... button to set up your dial-up connections.
In the User name field enter your nodename. In the Password field enter your logon password. Leave the Domain field blank.
Click OK to close the Connections Settings screen and then at the Internet Options, connections screen, click the LAN Settings button. The following screen will be displayed:
At the proxy server section, ensure that Use a proxy server is ticked. Now click the Advanced button and the Proxy Settings screen will be displayed.
At the Servers section of this screen enter powerproxy.powernet.co.uk in the HTTP Proxy address field and enter 8080 in to the HTTP port field.
Tick Use the same proxy server for all protocols option to populate the other fields.
Click OK to close this screen then keep clicking OK on all the remaining open windows until they are all closed. The set up is now complete and you are ready to browse the Internet.
