In a business situation where several people all use email, Powernet can offer a number of different solutions to meet your needs.
POP 3
The simplest method is to have a separate POP (Post Office Protocol) mailbox for each individual, so they can choose to check their email as often as they feel necessary. Powergroup can provide any domain mappings that may be required, so that each individual can also have an email address based upon your organisation's name.
SMTP
The next stage up from this is to have your organisation's email delivered by SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol). This generally involves having your own mail server at your organisation. E-mail is delivered directly to your mail server, which then sorts the mail into local POP boxes for your staff to retrieve as required. There are many advantages to this approach:
- Unlimited configurations - you have full control over how all your email is sorted and delivered: for example, you can choose to increase or decrease your number of POP boxes at will, perhaps to reflect changes in personnel. You might also want all emails to a particular address (eg 'info@...') to be received by more than one individual
- Monitoring and statistical analysis - you will have access to a wealth of statistics, such as the number of incoming/outgoing emails over a given period by each employee, thus helping you to determine the most effective type of an Internet connection for your organisation or to monitor possible abuse from staff
- E-mail backup and archiving - although Powernet stores all email in duplicate, so there is little chance of email being lost, we are unable to store email that has already been collected. A local mail server, however, allows you to keep an archive of all previously received emails.
Store & Forward
Email is critical to your business's communication, but what happens when your mail server goes down, where does all the email go?
It is possible that vital email could be lost, causing an embarrassing and business threatening situation.
Powernet provide a Store & Forward service that can be configured to collect email during an outage. Once the fault is fixed all collected email is sent on to the mail server and normal business can be resumed without the need for missing vital client and business related communication.
